Chapter Twenty-One

Round two was already less fun than round one. Caty and Dora came over with more rum, which I vowed not to touch. But Lauren had decided to stay in and do homework. I supposed that's what I should have been doing, but the good thing about not going to class was I didn't have any homework. Well, I was sure I did have homework, in theory, but since I didn't know what any of it was I couldn't possibly stay in to do it. Besides, I had more important matters to deal with. Like whether or not Isaac had heard my unromantic declaration of love earlier. I was hoping he hadn't, because if he had heard it that meant he basically ignored it and kept walking. I mean, if he had heard it, he would have come back to the room to say something, wouldn't he?

I tried to make myself stop thinking about it, but it was weighing on my mind.

"Where's Sarah?" Caty asked.

"Hanging out with her boyfriend," Lucy answered.

Caty made a face. None of us liked Sarah's boyfriend. She met him at one of the local bars. He said he was some sort of businessman, but I was pretty sure that meant that he sold children into slavery.

"Can we play a game or something, so we can finish our drinks and get out of here?" I asked.

"Sure, Jo," Dora answered. "What's the hurry?"

"I bet she needs to talk to Isaac," Lucy grinned. I glared at her, but couldn't help smiling. "She luuuuuuurves him."

"Bite me," I said. I tried to ignore the eager smiles on Dora and Caty's faces. I was sure they wanted a story, but I wasn't telling. They could hear it from Lucy later.

"So," I said innocently. "What game are we playing?"

"Anything but I Never," Lucy said. Everyone laughed and I pulled out a deck of cards.

"Kings it is."
